The Maasai Mara is Kenya's most celebrated wildlife reserve — a sweeping expanse of open savannah in southwestern Kenya, forming the northern extension of Tanzania's Serengeti National Park. Named after the Maasai people who have lived here for centuries, it is most famous for the annual Great Wildebeest Migration. MIGRATION UPDATE - 22th Aug 2026: There are still some decent herds around Keekorok and the Oloolaimutia Gate to the east of the Maasai Mara. The herds in the Triangle seemed to have moved south into the Serengeti National Park, but it has rained so we are hopeful the Wildebeest will be heading back. There was small herds near the Serena crossing points.
